Pune, 6th June 2024: The extended Pune Metro route from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi has been receiving a positive response from passengers, significantly boosting ridership numbers. Since the extension’s inauguration in March, the metro’s average daily ridership has climbed to 90,000, marking a sharp increase from previous months.

In January, the Pune Metro had 1.755 million passengers, which slightly increased to 1.776 million in February. However, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the extended route on March 6 via a televised ceremony, the numbers surged. March saw ridership jump to 2.258 million, followed by 2.381 million in April and reaching 2.616 million in May.

The daily ridership, which was around 60,000 in January, soared to 90,000 after the route extension to Ramwadi. Consequently, the daily revenue of the metro increased from approximately Rs. 9 lakhs to Rs. 14 lakhs, culminating in a total income of Rs. 4.24 crore in May.

Pune Metro currently operates on two main routes: Pimpri-Chinchwad to District Court and Vanaz to Ramwadi. The recently extended section from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi includes stations such as Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyaninagar, and Ramwadi, spanning 5.5 kilometers. Additionally, the Pimpri-Chinchwad to District Court route is set to extend to Swargate. This underground section, 3.64 kilometers long, is expected to commence operations in September, according to Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of MahaMetro.
