Pune, 6th June 2024: The residents of Kalyani Nagar are raising alarm over a serious civic issue that has emerged in their community. Over the past few days, raw sewage water has begun to overflow near Jogger’s Park, posing significant health hazards and inconveniences to the local population.

Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN), a group of residents, has filed multiple complaints through various channels. Despite these efforts, adequate corrective actions have not yet been taken by the authorities. TSKN and the community are urging for immediate intervention to resolve the issue.

The overflowing sewage water presents several threats to public health. Key concerns include gastrointestinal disorders, skin infections, allergies, and vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. Stagnant pools of untreated wastewater serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other vermin, further increasing the risk of infectious diseases. Additionally, persistent contact with contaminated water can erode soil composition, compromise the structural integrity of nearby properties, and pollute groundwater reserves essential for domestic use.

“We urge the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to mitigate the further detrimental effects caused by the mismanagement of sanitation facilities,” said Rachna Aggarwal, Chairperson of TSKN. “Our goal is to restore a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment for everyone in Kalyani Nagar.”
