Biden, Putin, and Other Leaders Congratulate Modi on Re-election Triumph

New Delhi, 6th June 2024: US President Joe Biden, along with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and UK PM Rishi Sunak, extended their congratulations to PM Narendra Modi for securing a majority in the Lok Sabha elections, ensuring his third term in office. Both Putin and Sunak personally spoke with Modi to convey their best wishes, with Sunak even tweeting his message in Devanagari script, emphasizing the strengthening bond between India and the UK.

Throughout the day, nearly 90 foreign leaders from almost 70 countries reached out to congratulate Modi. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, who is set to host the upcoming G7 summit, also expressed her felicitations to Modi, applauding the historic election and the massive turnout of voters.

President Biden praised the Indian electorate, poll workers, civil society, and journalists for their dedication to India’s democratic processes and institutions. The US emphasized its commitment to furthering partnership with India on various fronts, including promoting prosperity and innovation, addressing the climate crisis, and ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

In his call to Modi, President Putin lauded the results as an affirmation of India’s political course and its socioeconomic development, enhancing its international stature. Leaders from Japan, Israel, the UAE, and the Maldives also extended their congratulations, vowing to bolster cooperation on bilateral and global issues.

From India’s neighboring and extended neighborhood countries, including Sri Lanka, Maldives, Iran, Seychelles, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Mauritius, as well as from African nations like Nigeria, Kenya, and Comoros, leaders sent their warm wishes to Modi, reflecting the global significance of India’s democratic process.
