Pune, 6th June 2024: Results for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections have come in, and Murlidhar Mohol won in Pune. However, the deposit money of 33 candidates, including Vanchit Bahujan Agadi candidate Vasant More and former Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Fire Brigade head Prashant Ranpise, has been forfeited. These candidates failed to secure one-sixth of the total valid votes cast, leading to the forfeiture of their deposits.

In this election, along with Mahayuti’s Murlidhar Mohol and Mahavikas Aghadi’s Ravindra Dhangekar, 35 others contested. While filing the nomination, each candidate paid a deposit of Rs 25,000. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), if a candidate does not obtain one-sixth of the total valid votes, the deposit amount is forfeited.

A total of 10,97,112 votes were valid in this constituency. Therefore, each candidate needed to secure at least 1,84,519 votes. Except for Mohol and Dhangekar, no candidate reached this threshold. More received 32,012 votes, while Ranpise got 3,974 votes. Other candidates barely received 1,000 votes each, resulting in the forfeiture of their deposits.
