Narhe, 6th June 2024: A 19-year-old youth, identified as Bablu Ansari from Narhe, was arrested by Sinhagad Road police on Tuesday for allegedly setting fire to six two-wheelers and an autorickshaw parked within the premises of an under-construction building along the Narhe-Dhayari Road.

The incident occurred around 3 am, causing extensive damage to the vehicles. Senior Inspector Vijay Kumbhar stated that initial investigations suggested Ansari ignited the vehicles due to disputes with local youths.

Omkar Dhanepkar, a resident of Krishnainagar in Narhe, reported the incident, mentioning the loss of his e-motorcycle in the blaze. According to Dhanepkar, the parking space at the under-construction building was commonly used by residents of the surrounding area.

Dhanepkar recounted, “Around 3 am, residents noticed a fire in the parking lot and raised an alarm. By the time we arrived, three motorcycles were completely destroyed, and an autorickshaw along with three motorcycles were partially damaged.”

Further scrutiny of the CCTV footage led to the identification of Ansari, who was subsequently handed over to the police by concerned residents.

An official from Sinhagad Road police revealed that investigations indicated Ansari had poured a flammable substance on the vehicles before setting them ablaze. Ansari, unemployed and residing in the same locality, is now under police custody.
