Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Arrest Notorious Burglar and Jeweller Involved in 90 Cases
Nigdi, 5th June 2024: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested a notorious burglar and a jeweller against whom 90 cases of burglary, including attempted murder and murder, were registered at various police stations. Among these cases, the burglary at a jeweller’s home in Nigdi has been solved.
In this action, the police seized goods worth more than Rs 25,03,450. The incident leading to the thieves’ capture occurred on 24th May at 9:30 PM when they broke into Shri Lakshmi Jewelers in Nigdi Pradhikaran.
Regarding the Nigdi incident, the owner of Shri Lakshmi Jewelers filed a complaint at Nigdi Police Station. The police registered a case against the perpetrators under IPC sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment), 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc.), and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees). In this case, the police arrested notorious criminal Vicky Singh Kalyani (age 35, resident of Hadapsar) and jeweller Abdullah Shaikh (age 58, resident of Lohegaon).
According to police, the burglary at Shri Lakshmi Jewelers was deemed serious, prompting the Detection Branch (DB) of Nigdi Police Station to initiate an investigation by scrutinizing CCTV footage of the area. Through this, the police identified the culprits’ use of a red Chevrolet car. After analyzing over 300 CCTV recordings, they discovered that the suspects had fled to the Hadapsar area.
An informer from Hadapsar tipped off the police that Kalyani was involved in these crimes and had over 90 cases related to robbery, burglary, attempted murder, and murder, frequently changing addresses to evade arrest attempts. It was also revealed that he always carried weapons, making apprehension difficult. After surveilling the Hadapsar area for three consecutive days, DB officers, with assistance from Pimpri Police officials, staked out his home and arrested him.
Kalyani confessed to committing the crime in Nigdi with three accomplices. The jewellery he stole was sold to jeweller Shaikh. The police arrested Shaikh and recovered stolen items worth Rs 25,03,450 from him. Cases registered at Bibwewadi Police Station and Dombivli Police Station have also surfaced following Kalyani’s interrogation, prompting further investigation by the Pimpri Chinchwad police.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chinchwad Division) Raju More.
The team, led by Senior Police Inspector (Nigdi) Shatrughna Mali, Police Inspector (Crime) Tejaswini Kadam, and Assistant Police Inspectors Ambarish Deshmukh and Atringe, also included Police Sub Inspector Raykar, along with the Detection Branch teams from Pimpri and Nigdi Police Stations. Members of the team included Bhagwan Nagargoje, Sudhakar Awtade, Sidram Baba, Bhupendra Choudhary, Rahul Gaikwad, Vinod Honmane, Dattatraya Shinde, Tushar Gengje, Vinayak Marathe, Sunil Pawar, Keshav Chepte, Pravin Bamble, Kavita Paware, Sneha Mhaske, Rajendra Barshinge, Shantaram Hande, Vijay Janrao, Samir Dhawale, Ganesh Kakad, Dinesh Punde, Sachin Acharya, Datta Kavthekar, Nutan Konde, Swapnali Mhaskar, and Sarika Ankush.
