Shrirang Barne Clinches Third Consecutive Victory in Maval Lok Sabha Elections

Maval, 5th June 2024: On June 4th, Shrirang Barne, the Mahayuti candidate from Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, secured victory in the Maval Lok Sabha seat by defeating Sanjog Waghere Patil, the Mahavikas Aghadi candidate from Shiv Sena (UBT), by a margin of 96,615 votes. Barne garnered 6,92,832 votes, marking his third consecutive term as Maval MP.

The elections were anticipated to be close as Barne faced accusations of benefiting from the PM Narendra Modi wave and criticism regarding his tenure as MP. Despite perceived anti-incumbency sentiment among the people of Maval, Barne managed to secure victory. While Mahayuti faced challenges in other parts of Maharashtra, Barne’s win somewhat saved the alliance from embarrassment. Barne’s struggle to secure a ticket from Mahayuti due to conflicting interests within the alliance, along with rumors of activists working against him, didn’t hinder his success in the end.

Shrirang Chandu Barne was born on February 16th, 1964, in Thergaon, Pune. Married with two children, Barne faced heavy criticism for his billionaire status despite not having completed matriculation. However, he successfully passed his 10th standard SSC exam in 2022.

Barne boasts a notable political career spanning over two decades. He served as a Corporator in the PCMC and was elected Chairman of the Standing Committee. Barne has demonstrated administrative prowess as a leader of the opposition in the PCMC and as a member of various committees.

Elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014, representing the Maval constituency of Maharashtra, he further solidified his political standing with his re-election to the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019. Barne’s consistent performance in Parliament has earned him prestigious awards, including the Sansad Ratna Award and the Sansad Maha Ratna Award, for his sustained qualitative performance. Throughout his career, Barne has shown dedication to his constituents and effective leadership within the Shiv Sena party.

MP Shrirang Barne, representing Maval, is a billionaire with assets valued at Rs. 132 crore 23 lakh 91 thousand 631, showing a significant increase of Rs. 29 crore 42 lakh 81 thousand 497 over the past five years. His wealth comprises movable and immovable property, including agricultural and non-agricultural land, commercial and residential buildings, and investments in various financial instruments. Barne’s assets total Rs. 106 crore 55 lakhs, while his wife’s assets amount to Rs. 25 crore 68 lakhs. The significant increase in their wealth reflects diversified investments and successful business ventures.

Upon winning the elections, Barne expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank the people of Maval for their belief in me for the third time. This victory reflects the unified efforts of MLAs and activists. Over the past decade, I’ve worked tirelessly for the area’s development. Despite challenges, voters trusted my work, securing a victory by 1 lakh votes.”
