IMD Issues Rain Alert for Pune: Moderate to Heavy Rains Expected Till June 10

Pune, 4th June 2024: The first pre-monsoon rainfall of the season caused flash floods and significant waterlogging in various areas of Pune city today. The sudden downpour led to widespread disruptions and prompted warnings from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has issued a rain alert for Pune from June 5th to June 10th, forecasting varied weather conditions and potential hazards.

IMD Weather Forecast and Alerts:

5th June: Partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy by afternoon/evening with likely development of rain, thundershowers, and lightning.

6th June: Partly cloudy sky turning generally cloudy by afternoon/evening with expected rain, thunder, and lightning.

7th June: Generally cloudy sky with rain, thunder, and moderate rain very likely.

8th June: Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain likely.

9th June: Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain likely.

10th June: Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and possibly one or two heavy spells.

Expected Impacts:

– Strong winds and hail may damage plantations, horticulture, and standing crops.
– Hail may injure people and cattle in open areas.
– Vulnerable structures could face partial damage due to strong winds.
– Minor damage to kutcha houses.
– People are advised not to stand in open areas or under trees during lightning.
– Seek safe shelters and avoid taking shelter under trees.
– Avoid lying on concrete floors or leaning against concrete walls.
– Unplug electrical and electronic appliances.
– Immediately get out of water bodies.
– Keep away from all objects that conduct electricity.
