Monsoon Rains Advance into Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

Pune, 3rd June 2024: Monsoon rains have entered Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, with widespread coverage across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and Northeast India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon, which arrived in Kerala on May 30, had fully settled there by June 1.

By Sunday, the monsoon had extended to cover all of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, advancing across the entire Northeast, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal, while some parts of South Karnataka, South Andhra Pradesh, and Tripura remain to be covered. The IMD forecasts that favorable conditions will allow the monsoon to extend further, covering the rest of Karnataka and progressing beyond in the next two to three days.

The arrival of the monsoon has brought a noticeable drop in temperatures across the state, including Vidarbha. Despite this, Yavatmal recorded the highest temperature in the state on Sunday at 45.0°C. Other high temperatures in Vidarbha included Washim at 42.6°C, Nagpur at 41.8°C, Chandrapur at 43.4°C, Amravati at 42.6°C, and Akola at 42.8°C. In Marathwada, Parbhani recorded 40.5°C, Dharashiv 39.4°C, Nanded 41.2°C, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 39.5°C.

In Madhya Maharashtra, Solapur recorded 40.6°C, Jalgaon 40.8°C, Malegaon 42.4°C, and Pune 36.6°C. Coastal regions also experienced cooler temperatures, with Colaba recording 35.2°C and Ratnagiri 34.8°C.
