Mahabaleshwar, 2nd June 2024: On Saturday, the Satara district administration sealed the MPG Club in Mahabaleshwar’s Malkam Peth area. The club is owned by the family members of the teenager allegedly involved in the recent Porsche crash in Pune. Previously, the excise department had sealed the club’s bar.

This action follows Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s directive to Satara Collector Jitendra Dudi to demolish the MPG Club if its construction is found to be illegal. The order came after RTI activist Abhaysingh Havaldar alleged that the club was illegally built on government land leased to the Parsi Gymkhana Club. The club is run by a trust whose members include the parents and grandparents of the teenager involved in the Porsche incident.

At 7:30 AM on Saturday, a team of revenue and municipal officials, led by Sub-Divisional Officer Rajendra Kumar Jadhav, raided the club. The staff began vacating rooms occupied by tourists, and the action continued into the afternoon. Jadhav stated, “We have sealed 32 rooms, eight cottages, a spa, gym, restaurant, kitchen, reception room, staff room, and the storeroom of the MPG Club as the property was illegally being used for commercial purposes. A panchnama of this action was conducted by the revenue department. The operation concluded with the sealing of the club’s main gate. A report of this action will be sent to the district collector.”

Activist Abhaysingh Havaldar commented on the administration’s actions, stating, “Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had said that the property will be bulldozed if found to be illegal. Now, it should be bulldozed. It has already been proven that the club is illegal, which is why the administration is taking this action.”
