Pune: Husband Sets Wife on Fire in Warje Malwadi, Woman Succumbs to Injuries
Warje, 31st May 2024: A familial dispute took a grim turn when a man tried to burn his wife alive by pouring diesel over her body in Pune. The woman sustained severe burns and died during treatment. This incident occurred in Warje Malwadi on Wednesday (29th May).
The deceased woman has been identified as Pooja Pravin Chavan (26), a resident of Warje. Pooja’s brother, Amol Bhaurao Pawar, filed a complaint at Warje Malwadi Police Station. Police have registered a case against her husband, Pravin Bhausaheb Chavan (26), also a resident of Warje, who has not yet been arrested.
According to police reports, Pooja and her husband Pravin had been having familial disputes for quite some time. On Wednesday, another argument occurred, which escalated severely. The accused poured diesel over Pooja’s body and set her on fire. Pooja was rushed to a private hospital but died during treatment. After admitting her to the hospital, Pravin Chavan fled.
Warje Malwadi police have registered a case against the accused husband under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 498(A) (cruelty by husband or his relatives). Senior Police Inspector Manoj Shedge from the Warje Malwadi Police Station is investigating the matter further.
