“Nobody Will Be Spared,” Says Fadnavis Amid Backlash Over Pune Porsche Incident Handling

Pune, 30th May 2024: In Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, in the early hours of 19th May, a minor allegedly under the influence of alcohol, driving a speeding Porsche, hit and killed two young IT engineers named Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Despite the gravity of the incident, the case remains unresolved after approximately two weeks, with new revelations emerging daily. The case received national attention due to the minor accused being granted bail within 15 hours. This swift bail decision has drawn significant criticism from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In response, Fadnavis stated that no one involved in the incident would be spared.

What is the Kalyani Nagar Porsche Incident?

The incident involves the minor son of an influential builder who, allegedly drunk, killed two young IT engineers in the early hours of 19th May while speeding in a Porsche. The minor was granted bail on the condition of writing a 300-word essay and other minor disciplinary actions. Public outrage ensued, demanding stricter measures due to the severity of the offence. The minor’s father, Vishal Agarwal, and grandfather, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, were arrested under charges of criminal intimidation and bribery. Additionally, Dr Ajay Taware, Dr Shrihari Halnor, and peon Atul Ghatkamble from Sassoon General Hospital were detained for blood sample swapping and evidence tampering. Numerous names have surfaced in the investigation, leading to various political accusations. While Home Minister Fadnavis remained silent initially, he has now responded to the situation.

Political Reactions

Many prominent political leaders have criticized the Maharashtra State Government, focusing their criticism on Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis. Baramati MP Supriya Sule accused Fadnavis of ignoring the rising crime rates and accidents in the Pune district. Indian National Congress Maharashtra State President Nana Patole demanded Fadnavis’ resignation. Additionally, MP Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushma Andhare, and MLA Ravindra Dhangekar have also voiced criticisms against the former chief minister.

Deputy CM’s Response

DCM Devendra Fadnavis responded, stating, “Proper action is being taken in the Pune Porsche incident. Some people are playing politics with it. Their motivations are becoming clear. This incident is separate, but some are using it for political gain. Everything will be revealed. As I said before and will say again, nobody involved in the Pune Porsche incident will be spared!”
