Somatane, 28th May 2024: Three individuals attempted to kill a minor girl by attacking her with a knife and strangling her neck with their hands. The motive behind this heinous act was the minor girl’s refusal to be involved in the prostitution business.

The incident occurred on Sunday (26th May) and Monday (27th May) near Somatane and Gadumbare Villages of Maval Taluka, Pune.

The victim, a 16-year-old minor girl and resident of Somatane Phata, filed a complaint with the Shirgaon Police Station, Pimpri Chinchwad police. Subsequently, the Shirgaon Police arrested Pavan Kumar Prasad (23 years old, resident of Pratapgad, Uttar Pradesh), Anju Yadav (39 years old, resident of Devariya, Uttar Pradesh), and Deepak Yadav (21 years old, resident of Devariya, Uttar Pradesh).

According to police reports, Deepak initiated a romantic relationship with the minor victim. During this time, Pavan Kumar and Anju Yadav pressured her to enter the prostitution business to make money, which the victim refused. Following this, the three accused pretended to agree and promised to take her to her native village in Uttar Pradesh, taking her on a train. However, at Lonavala Police Station, they deviated from their promise, taking her to a rented room instead. On Monday evening, they attacked her neck with a knife from behind in the darkness of the room. They also attempted to strangle her, but the victim managed to escape and ran straight to the police.

The Shirgaon Police have registered a case against the three accused under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 366 (A) (procuration of minor girl), 107 (abetment of a thing), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
