Pune, 25th May 2024: In response to recent crackdowns on pubs found serving liquor to minors, the Pune district administration is considering a novel approach: webcasting to monitor adherence to regulations. The proposal, put forth by District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase, aims to leverage technology to ensure a safer nightlife environment.

Dr. Diwase highlighted the success of webcasting during elections at 70 polling stations, emphasizing its potential applicability in monitoring clubs and bars. The envisioned system could serve as a deterrent against illegal activities, such as serving alcohol to minors or operating beyond permissible hours.

While the proposal has garnered attention, it has also sparked debate among stakeholders. Members of the hotel association, while expressing willingness to cooperate with authorities, raised concerns about the financial burden associated with implementing webcasting. They emphasized the need for the authorities to bear the costs, citing existing pressures faced by establishments operating late into the night.

The Excise department acknowledged the proposal, noting that it is still in its nascent stages. Key considerations include determining the requisite staffing levels and devising effective management strategies. Questions regarding oversight of the webcasting system within clubs and bars remain under deliberation.
