Pune: First-Time Voters Share Their Perspectives on the Democratic Process

Pune/Pimpri Chinchwad, 13th May 2024: The young citizens represent the future of Indian democracy. Pune Lok Sabha constituency’s candidate from BJP led Mahayuti, Murlidhar Mohol, took to Twitter (X) and announced that he exercised his democratic right by voting alongwith his wife Monika and daughter Sidhi, who is a first time voter.

We spoke with several first-time voters to understand their views, aspirations, and expectations.

Anjali Padampalle,20, a student from Pune, expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the electoral process. “I feel a sense of responsibility as a first-time voter,” she shared. “I want to vote for candidates who prioritize issues like education, employment, and women’s safety.”

Guddi Yadav, 19, Moshi, a student of Computer Science, highlighted the importance of informed decision-making. “I’ve been researching the candidates and their policies to make an informed choice,” she stated. “As a first-time voter, I believe it’s crucial to understand the impact of my vote on the country’s future.”

Chetana Andekar,19, a student of Mass Media, emphasized the need for youth representation in politics. “As a first-time voter, I want to support candidates who advocate for the interests of young people,” she emphasized. “Our voices deserve to be heard, and I see voting as a way to contribute to shaping our nation’s future.”

Chaitrali Pushkar Tuljapurkar said, “Voting for the first time for a healthy democracy was a different experience. I went with my parents many times over the years to vote but when I voted myself I felt a sense of responsibility.”
