Mahindra Aims to Lead Compact SUV Segment with XUV 3XO, Unveils Strategy

Pune, April 30 – Mahindra has set its sights on dominating the compact SUV segment in India, unveiling its strategy post the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The company aims to secure a leading position in the segment in the coming years. This ambition was articulated by officials of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, who aspire to rank among the top two players in the compact SUV segment within the next three years. The Executive Director and CEO (Auto and Farm), Rajesh Jejurikar, emphasized the importance of appealing to a broader demographic beyond the medium age range to stimulate growth in the SUV segment.

Mahindra’s latest entrant, the XUV 3XO, was introduced to the Indian market on April 29, sporting an introductory price of Rs. 7.49 lakh. The company views the sub-four-meter compact SUV segment as a crucial arena. Despite currently holding the fifth position in this segment, Mahindra aims to ascend to either the top spot or the runner-up position within the next three years. Company officials underscored their confidence in the 3XO and emphasized their current focus on product quality and performance.

Highlighting the potential for expansion, Mahindra officials disclosed that the SUV’s production capacity stands at 9,000 units per month, with the possibility of ramping it up to 10,500 units per month with a modest investment of approximately Rs. 650 crores.

The manufacturing journey of the XUV 3XO involves design activities at Mahindra India’s Design Studio (MIDC) in Mumbai and engineering and development work at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai. The actual production of the SUV takes place in Nasik, Maharashtra.

Prospective buyers can look forward to booking the XUV 3XO online starting May 15, as well as at Mahindra dealerships. Deliveries of the SUV are slated to begin from May 26 onwards. This timeline marks the next phase in Mahindra’s quest to assert its dominance in the fiercely competitive compact SUV segment.
