Pune: Shrirang Barne to File Nomination on April 22, Sanjog Waghere on April 23

Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th April 2024: The filing of nomination forms for the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency begins today, April 18. In this constituency, current MP Shrirang Barne has been nominated by the Mahayuti alliance, while Sanjog Waghere will represent the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance. As of yet, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has not announced its candidate. Barne is scheduled to file his nomination papers on April 22, while Waghere will file his on April 23.

The Maval Lok Sabha constituency spans parts of Pune and Raigad districts, including the constituencies of Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Maval in Pune district, as well as Panvel, Uran, and Karjat in Raigad district. This year marks the first time local candidates and both factions of the Shiv Sena are contesting in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, drawing significant attention to the election.

The nomination process will be open from April 18 to April 25. Scrutiny of the nominations is scheduled for April 26, with withdrawal possible until April 29. Voting will take place on May 13. Deepak Singla, Additional Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), has been appointed as the Election Returning Officer. The Election Returning Office is located on the seventh floor of the PMRDA office in Akurdi.

Voter turnout in the Maval constituency is of particular interest due to the increase in voter numbers across the different legislative constituencies from 2019 to 2024:

– Panvel saw an increase of 51,013 voters, going from 5,14,902 in 2019 to 5,65,915 in 2024.
– Chinchwad experienced the largest increase with 1,18,628 new voters, rising from 4,76,780 to 5,95,408.
– Pimpri increased by 23,105 voters, from 6,41,701 to 6,64,806.
– Maval increased by 37,422 voters, from 3,32,112 to 3,69,534.
– Karjat increased by 29,043 voters, going from 2,75,480 to 3,04,523.
– Uran increased by 22,617 voters, from 2,86,658 to 3,09,275.

In total, there is a net increase of 2,81,828 voters in the Maval constituency compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It will be intriguing to see how the increased voter population will affect the election and which candidate will benefit from this new influx of voters.
