Pune Divisional Commissioner Directs Enhanced Security Measures for Election Process

Pune, 26th March 2024: In a bid to ensure the smooth conduct of elections in the Pune Division, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar has emphasized the need for rigorous security measures at every stage of the electoral process.

Speaking at an election review meeting held at the Divisional Commissioner’s office and broadcast via video conferencing system, Dr. Pulkundwar stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between revenue and police administrations to create a conducive environment for free and fair elections.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase, Pune City’s Joint Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar, Special Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur range) Sunil Phulari, Additional Commissioner of Police (Pimpri Chinchwad) Vasant Pardeshi, Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Pankaj Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Revenue Varsha Ladda-Untwal, and Election Returning Officer of Shirur Lok Sabha Constituency Ajay More.

Dr. Pulkundwar underscored the necessity of strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct and guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India. He emphasized the need for meticulous planning, including considerations for inter-district and inter-state coordination, to prevent the misuse of money and force and ensure that citizens can exercise their voting rights without fear.

Special efforts are being made to encourage youth and senior citizens to participate in the electoral process, with a focus on ensuring that eligible voters have easy access to polling stations. Additionally, heightened awareness campaigns are being conducted to help voters locate their designated polling stations.

Given the rising temperatures expected during the summer months, arrangements are being made to accommodate the anticipated crowds during peak voting hours in the mornings and evenings. Dr. Pulkundwar emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health and well-being of poll workers, particularly in the sweltering heat.

Furthermore, regional officials have been tasked with conducting visits to polling stations to identify and address any potential challenges or issues that may arise.

During the meeting, Pune Division’s Collector and senior police officers provided updates on election preparations in their respective districts, highlighting efforts focused on staff training and preventive measures to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process.
