Pune, 23rd March 2024: Former Deputy Mayor Aba Bagul staged a protest today by lighting a candle in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the Congress Bhawan, expressing discontent over the nomination of MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, by the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections.

Bagul, who had expressed his desire to contest the Pune Lok Sabha elections, criticized the party’s decision to nominate MLA Dhangekar from the Kasba Constituency. His displeasure was evident during a press conference held on Friday (22nd March), where he also denounced regional-level leaders. Today, Bagul led a protest at the Congress Bhawan, with supporters donning t-shirts and carrying signs decrying the loss of loyalty within the Congress.

Highlighting the prevalence of injustice towards loyalists within the party, Bagul lamented that opportunities were being given to outsiders while loyalists were overlooked. To address this issue, he announced plans for a ‘Nyaya Sangharsh Yatra’ from Pune, aiming to rally loyalists and unite them against casteist forces.

Bagul’s protest at the Congress Bhavan following MLA Dhangekar’s nomination sparked discussions, particularly as it highlighted the disillusionment among old workers and office bearers of the city Congress.
