Traffic Relief Measures Implemented at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk

Pune, 21st March 2024: To alleviate traffic congestion, the Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk will undergo changes starting Friday, March 22. Deputy Commissioner of Pune City Traffic Branch Rohidas Pawar provided details of the alterations.

The ongoing construction of the flyover and metro on Ganeshkhind Road has resulted in daily traffic snarls due to the road’s narrowness. The modifications outlined by the transport department are as follows:

1. The entry from Senapati Bapat Road Junction for vehicles traveling from University Chowk and heading towards Senapati Bapat Road will no longer be accessible. Instead, motorists are advised to make a U-turn in front of Cosmos Bank and then turn left at Senapati Bapat Road junction as an alternative route.

2. Vehicles commuting from Shivajinagar on Ganeshkhind Road towards Range Hills will encounter a closure for right turns at Range Hills corner. As an alternative route, motorists are recommended to execute a U-turn in front of Cosmos Bank and proceed to turn left at Range Hills corner, heading towards Range Hills.

3. Access to Aundh, Sangvi, and Dange Chowk from the University will be limited from Ganeshkhind Road. An alternative route is suggested: From the University Chowk, take a left towards Baner Road, make a U-turn at the back of Raj Bhavan, and then turn left from the University Chowk onto Aundh Road.

4. Entry for vehicles destined for Baner from University Chowk will no longer be permitted via Baner Road. Instead, an alternative route is recommended: From the university Chowk, turn left onto Pashan Road, and subsequently turn right towards Baner from Abhimanshree Junction. Traffic from Baner and Aundh roads towards University Chowk remains unaffected by these changes.

Furthermore, heavy vehicles’ access on these routes is restricted as follows:

– Trucks, trailers, and containers are prohibited from accessing the following roads 24 hours a day:
– From Chaphekar Chowk on Ganeshkhind Road to Pune University Chowk.
– From Bremen Chowk to University Chowk on Aundh Road.
– From Abhimanashree Chowk to University Chowk.
– From JW Marriott Hotel Chowk to University Chowk.

However, three-wheeler pickups transporting vegetables and mixers, as well as JCBs, road rollers, and other goods transport vehicles, will be prohibited from 8 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 10 PM.
