New Delhi, March 20, 2024 – A case of stealing the secret technology of Tesla, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has emerged with the arrest of two individuals. One person, identified as Klaus Fugbel, has been apprehended while attempting to sell Tesla’s battery manufacturing technology. The other accused, Shao, a Chinese citizen, remains at large. The theft involved crucial information obtained during their employment at the Canadian company Hibar System, specializing in battery manufacturing technology.

Klaus Fugbel, a Canadian national residing in China, was arrested on Tuesday morning in Long Island. Federal prosecutors have moved to deny bail, emphasizing the severity of the trade secret theft. The accused duo formerly worked at Hibar System, providing them access to Tesla’s confidential battery technology. The stolen information was being marketed through advertisements on Google and other social media platforms. An undercover agent engaged with Shao, expressing interest in purchasing the illicitly obtained data, leading to the arrest of Fugbel during a meeting in New York.

The accused individuals established a company in China in mid-2020, later expanding operations to Canada, Germany, and Brazil. Their endeavors in research and development on the stolen technology amounted to several million dollars. Prosecutors are actively pursuing the case, highlighting the grave implications of stealing and attempting to sell Tesla’s proprietary technology. Defense statements regarding the allegations are awaited as the investigation continues.
