Pimpri Chinchwad, 19th March 2024: Sanjog Waghere, the Maval organizer for the Shiv Sena Thackeray Group, has criticized MP Shrirang Barne while posing several pertinent questions regarding the pollution of rivers in the region. Waghere expressed dissatisfaction with the Maharashtra Government’s efforts, stating that despite promises to make the Pavana and Indrayani rivers pollution-free, little tangible progress has been made. He questioned the efficacy of these announcements, particularly considering the lack of action over the past decade to address river pollution.

Highlighting the escalating pollution levels in the rivers originating from Maval and Mulshi and flowing through Pimpri-Chinchwad, Waghere emphasized the dire consequences of industrial effluents and untreated sewage entering the water bodies. He lamented the lack of serious action by the government to mitigate pollution, which has led to frequent incidents of fish deaths and environmental degradation along the riverbanks.

Waghere underscored the historical significance of areas like Dehu and Alandi, known for their rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance. He expressed disappointment that despite the expectations for the revival of these rivers, elected representatives have failed to prioritize environmental conservation. Instead, Waghere accused MPs and Maharashtra Government ministers of making false promises ahead of elections without addressing the longstanding issue of river pollution.

In a proactive move, Waghere revealed that he has filed a complaint with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) regarding the alarming death of fish along the banks of the Indrayani River at Dehu Gaon. This action underscores his commitment to holding authorities accountable for their negligence towards environmental conservation and ensuring the well-being of local ecosystems.
