Maval, 19th March 2024: There appears to be a significant opposition brewing against the candidature of Shrirang Barne, the Member of Parliament from the Maval Lok Sabha constituency, particularly from his constituency. This opposition stems from various factions within the Mahayuti alliance, including the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. While the Mahayuti alliance has not yet announced the candidate for the constituency, it is evident that Barne’s potential nomination could face strong resistance.

The Maval Lok Sabha constituency, which spans Pune and Raigad districts, has traditionally been dominated by Pune district. In recent elections, support from key figures such as Sunil Shelke, current Maval MLA, and former Maval MLA Bala Bhegde played a crucial role in Barne’s victories. However, tensions have arisen between Barne and these figures, particularly Shelke, over administrative decisions and other political matters. Consequently, Shelke and Bhegde, along with their respective supporters, are openly opposing Barne’s candidature.

Furthermore, there are indications that NCP office-bearers from Pimpri, who are part of the Mahayuti alliance, are pushing for the NCP to contest the Maval constituency. This adds another layer of complexity to the situation.

On the other hand, there seems to be relative peace on the Raigad side of the constituency, with no opposition apparent to Barne’s candidature from that region. Overall, the growing opposition within Maval, coupled with potential challenges from other factions within the Mahayuti alliance, presents a significant challenge for Barne’s candidacy. The situation remains fluid as the alliance deliberates on its candidate for the upcoming elections.
