Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Expresses Concerns Over Delay in Tamhini Ghat Road Concreting

Pune, 27th February 2024: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar voiced his disappointment regarding the prolonged delay in completing the concreting work on the road connecting Chandni Chowk to the Tamhini Ghat section.

During his visit to Mulshi taluka on Saturday, the deputy chief minister, addressing his party workers, expressed his dissatisfaction with the efficiency of the contractor responsible for the project.

Pawar acknowledged that the contractor’s inefficiency had led to delays in the concreting work, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution. Despite concerns, he highlighted the challenge of blacklisting the contractor, as it could lead to legal complications and further project delays. “I will pursue the issue with the authorities to ensure the completion of the project at the earliest,” stated Pawar.

The road from Chandni Chowk to the Tamhini Ghat section, passing through Mulshi taluka, is a crucial route for commuters traveling to Konkan. However, the concreting work on this road has been ongoing for an extended period.

In addition to the delay, Pawar expressed concerns about the quality of the completed stretches, describing them as of inferior quality. “The work is not up to the mark; I could feel it when I traveled on the completed stretch,” remarked the deputy CM.

Pointing out that the road serves as a vital link for Mulshi residents heading to Pune city limits, Pawar highlighted the difference in approach between state and central government projects. “Had this project been carried out by the state government, I would have ensured its completion within the stipulated timeframe. Since the project is being handled by the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India), I will pursue the issue with the central government,” he stated.

Residents of Mulshi taluka raised concerns about the ongoing work causing traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours. Commuters, like Ramesh Sanas, noted the danger posed by unfinished road patches, leading to an increased risk of accidents.

The impact on travel time was also highlighted by those using the road to reach destinations like Dapoli in Konkan.
