Gulveer Singh Clinches Gold in Men’s 3000m at Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024

Delhi, 20 Febuary 2024: India’s Gulveer Singh secured the gold medal in the men’s 3000m race at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, Iran. Competing at Tehran’s Aftab e Enghelab Sports Complex, Gulveer Singh clocked an impressive time of 8 minutes, 7 seconds, and 48 milliseconds (8:07.48) to lead a field of 13 participants.

In a closely contested race, Gulveer Singh outpaced Nursultan Keneshbekov of Kyrgyzstan, who settled for the silver medal with a time of 8:08.85, and Iran’s Jalil Naseri, who secured the bronze medal with a time of 8:09.39. Notably, Nursultan Keneshbekov had previously competed in the 5000m race at the Tokyo Olympics.

On the women’s front, India’s Ankita Dhyani clinched the silver medal in the 3000m event with a commendable timing of 9:26.22. Japan’s Yuma Yamamoto emerged victorious with a gold medal, clocking 9:16.71, while Ainuska Kalil Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan claimed the bronze medal with a timing of 9:27.18.

Furthermore, India celebrated gold medals from Harmilan Bains in the women’s 1500m and Jyothi Yarraji in the 60m hurdles, along with Tajinderpal Singh Toor’s successful defense of his men’s shot put title.

The Indian contingent concluded the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 with a remarkable performance, securing four gold medals and one silver medal. This achievement earned India the third position on the medals tally. China led the standings with eight golds, six silvers, and one bronze medal, followed by Kazakhstan with four golds, two silvers, and four bronze medals.

This successful outing marks India’s second-best performance at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, underscoring the nation’s growing prowess in indoor athletics.
