Pune Police Impose Section 144 To Regulate Nightlife Including Bars, Pubs, Hotels And Clubs Timings; Check Guidelines Here

Pune, 19th February 2024: In a bid to enhance safety and security, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a series of stringent guidelines for all clubs, bars, and pubs in Pune by invoking section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

These measures aim to create a safer environment for patrons while maintaining order in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene, Kumar said.

Key Points of the New Guidelines:

Surveillance Upgrade: Mandatory installation of CCTV cameras in all premises, excluding washrooms, to bolster security and monitor activities within these establishments.

Bouncer Vetting: Stringent background checks for bouncers, ensuring a clean record; any exceptions require explicit permission from Zone DCP, tightening the reins on personnel with potential criminal ties.

Hookah/Sheesha Ban: A sweeping prohibition on all forms of hookah and sheesha, signaling a shift in policies surrounding recreational substances within these establishments.

Designated Smoking Zones: Smoking to be restricted to designated areas within clubs, ensuring a more controlled and regulated environment for patrons who indulge in this activity.

Music Curfew: Enforcing a strict music curfew, with all amplified sounds to be silenced by 10 PM, aligning with municipal noise regulations and fostering a quieter ambiance in the later hours.

Closing Time Enforcement: Clubs, pubs, bars, restaurant, are instructed not to extend their operations beyond the stipulated deadline of 1:30 AM, promoting adherence to legal operating hours.

Licensing Requirements: All clubs, restaurants, and bars must possess a valid FL3 license from the excise department, reinforcing compliance with regulatory norms.

Zero Tolerance: A resolute stance on any establishment operating without the proper licenses, underscoring a zero-tolerance approach to unlicensed nightlife ventures.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told Punekar News,”The CrPC 144 section notification is being issued for 14 days. We will take feedback of people and the concerned stakeholders, and then decide further course of action.”
