Koregaon Park, 16th February 2024: Ongoing traffic diversions near Sadhu Vaswani rail overbridge and Koregaon Park are causing significant delays for commuters traveling through Mangaldas Road and the Wadia College area. Regular travelers report increased travel times due to the heavy traffic, particularly on stretches of Mangaldas Road and Bundgarden Road.

The traffic police, in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), implemented these diversions last week to facilitate the proposed bridge construction work. The PMC’s plan involves demolishing the existing bridge and constructing a new one. While the actual construction work is yet to commence, trial diversions have been introduced, expected to remain in effect over the next few days.

Presently, the bridge is open for one-way traffic, allowing vehicles to travel from Circuit House Chowk towards Blue Diamond Chowk. However, vehicles heading from Blue Diamond Chowk towards Circuit House Chowk are redirected through the alternate route of Mangaldas Road and Wadia College Chowk.

Traffic police officials acknowledged the challenges posed by the diversions and outlined steps taken to minimize their impact. “We are still in the initial phase of diversions, deploying additional manpower at strategic locations. Adjustments to traffic signal timings are underway, and we are closely monitoring the diversion’s impact,” stated officials.

The PMC clarified that the actual demolition work on the bridge will commence once the traffic movement plan for the area is finalized.
