Pune, 15th February 2024: The Pune rail division is set to enhance its security measures by deploying AI-enabled CCTV cameras at all reservation offices and PRS (passenger reservation system) centers within its jurisdiction.

At present, five such cameras have been successfully installed at the reservation office of the Pune railway station, with initial tests yielding satisfactory results.

Milind Hirve, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of Pune rail division, explained, “The objective is to prevent touts from purchasing tickets in large quantities, and a system needs to be developed for their immediate identification upon entering the reservation counter. In collaboration with a private telecom company, we have initiated this strategic plan.”

Hirve further detailed that the plan involves the installation of cameras at key railway stations and PRS centers situated in locations like Kolhapur, Pimpri, Sangli, Karad, etc. Between April and December of the previous year, approximately 270 cases were identified, leading to the arrest of 320 individuals involved in the illegal acquisition of tickets.
