Wagholi, 14th February 2024: A shocking incident unfolded on Tuesday when Rohidas Ashok Jadhav, a 33-year-old resident of Siddhi Apartment in Wagholi, attempted to commit suicide by setting himself on fire in front of the Wagholi Police Chowki.

The Lonikand Police Station, Pune City Police, has now registered a case against 15 individuals, including a construction professional and four society members, for charges including abetment to suicide, caste abuse, and assault.

The complaint, filed by Rohidas’s brother Nana Ashok Jadhav, outlines that the brothers were facing restrictions from using the parking lot and terrace within the society. The alleged perpetrators, including builder Sachin Jadhav (39, resident of Wagholi), Gajanan Abnave, Lata Gajanan Abnave, Sangram Gajanan Abnave (residents of Wagholi), and Dr. Pacharane, reportedly subjected the siblings to physical assault and caste-based abuse.

Rohidas Jadhav had previously filed a complaint at Wagholi Police Chowki concerning the mistreatment. In response, a non-cognisable offence (NC) case had been registered. However, Rohidas demanded the arrest of Sachin Jadhav and Abnave. On Tuesday morning, Rohidas attempted self-immolation in front of the Wagholi police Chowki.

Following this harrowing incident, the police have taken action and officially registered a case against the accused individuals. Rohidas, who sustained critical injuries from the self-immolation attempt, is currently in precarious condition.

Several suspected perpetrators have been detained, and further investigations are being conducted by Sanjay Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Yerwada Division.
