Narayangaon/Pune, 14th February 2024: The brutal murder of 70-year-old Sulochana Kondibhau Temgire, an elderly woman from Manjarwadi (Taluka Junnar), was carried out by a young couple employed as farm laborers, with the intention of robbery, revealed an investigation by the local crime branch (LCB) and Narayangaon police station of Pune Rural Police.

Pune rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh informed that Shivam, also known as Sanket Sham Srimant (21 years old), and his wife Poonam Sanket Srimant (20 years old), residents of Gajanan Nagar, Taluka Chikhali, District Buldhana, were arrested today in Ahmednagar in connection with this crime.

According to police, Sulochana, who lost her husband and a son to COVID-19, was residing on a farm in Ghanvat Mala with her other son, who works in Pune. The accused, who worked as laborers for a neighboring farmer, identified her vulnerability – being alone at home throughout the day while her son was away at work.

Exploiting this situation, the accused planned a robbery at Sulochana’s residence. On February 8, the couple went to their village in Buldhana, informing the owner that their grandfather was unwell. On February 12, around ten in the morning, they arrived at Sulochana’s house. Finding her alone, they demanded money. When she refused, the accused brutally stabbed Sulochana in the neck and hands, resulting in her death, said
Assistant Police Inspector Mahadev Shelar of Narayangaon police station.

Fleeing the scene with household ornaments on a motorcycle, they eventually abandoned the motorcycle in a nearby field after it stopped working.

A case of murder against an unidentified person was registered at Narayangaon police station on February 12.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional SP Ramesh Chopde, Sub Divisional Police Officer Ravindra Chaudhar, LCB and police station officials began the investigation.

Specialized teams were formed to trace the accused. The police arrested the couple in Ahmednagar based on forensic and technical evidences.
