Katraj, 14th February 2024: The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park (Katraj Zoo) has recently expanded its collection with the addition of four four-horned antelopes, generously gifted by the Chhattisgarh Forest Department.

These magnificent creatures, comprising two pairs, were relocated from the Kanan Pendari Zoological Garden, Bilaspur and are now available for public exhibition at the museum. With this latest acquisition, the museum’s population of four-horned antelopes has increased to eight, enhancing the diversity of its wildlife offerings.

In addition to the four-horned antelopes, the Katraj Zoo recently received two hyenas and one leopard from the Karnataka Forest Department. These animals, originating from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Zoological Park, Hampi, were gifted in response to a request from the Katraj Zoo. Following the completion of their isolation period, these animals have seamlessly acclimatized to their new environment, contributing to the museum’s growing collection. With their introduction, the museum now boasts four leopards, including three females and one male, as well as three hyenas, enriching the visitor experience.

Looking ahead, Katraj Zoo anticipates the arrival of a female lion from the Tilyar Mini Zoo, Rohtak in Haryana, pending final approvals. Furthermore, preparations are underway for the introduction of Pisori Deer and Lion-Tailed Macaque (a type of monkey) within the next six months, further diversifying the museum’s offerings.

Rajkumar Jadhav, Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, expressed the institution’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience by continually expanding its collection of animals. He emphasized the museum’s dedication to providing a memorable and educational experience for tourists, underscoring the significance of witnessing these magnificent creatures firsthand.
