Pune Railway Police Recovers Purse With Valuables Worth Rs 8.77 Lakh, Purse Was Stolen From AC Coach Of Train

Pune, 13th February 2024: The Pune Railway Police successfully apprehended a thief within 24 hours of a theft incident in an AC compartment at Pune Railway Station. This prompt action led to the recovery of stolen property and the arrest of the perpetrator, ensuring justice for the affected passengers.

On February 2, 2024, at 4:00 AM, Balwinder Singh Marwa, a 44-year-old resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, along with his family, was travelling on Train No. 22157 Chennai Express in Coach No. B2. Somewhere between Lonavla and Pune Railway Station, an unidentified thief stole his wife’s purse, containing valuables totalling Rs 8,77,800, including gold ornaments and cash. In response to the complaint lodged by the victim, a case was promptly registered against unknown persons under IPC section 379 (Punishment for theft) at the Pune Railway Police Station.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Pune Railway Police Tushar Doshi, Police Inspector Irfan Shaikh of the Pune Railway commenced an investigation immediately after the case was filed. Collaborating with the local crime branch and Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff, surveillance footage from 52 CCTV cameras at Pune railway station was meticulously reviewed, leading to the identification of two suspicious individuals.

Subsequently, a strategic operation was launched in the vicinity of Pune Railway Station, resulting in the apprehension of Vishal Vithal Nagtilak Deshmukh, a 30-year-old resident of Mundhwa. Deshmukh, who was en route to Mumbai to sell the stolen jewellery, was arrested on February 2, 2024, at 6:30 AM, while attempting to board the Mysore Ajmer Express train. He was apprehended amidst the throng of passengers in the general compartment.

Following a thorough investigation, stolen property amounting to Rs 8,77,800, including gold ornaments and cash, was recovered and returned to the complainant. The swift resolution of the case earned appreciation from the victim, who expressed gratitude to the Pune Railway Police for their diligent efforts in securing justice.

The successful operation was made possible through the coordinated efforts of Pune Railway Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi, Senior Police Inspector Irfan Sheikh, Police Sub-Inspector Swapnil Waghmare, ASI Nishikant Raut, ASI Sunil Mane, Police Constable Amardeep Salunke, Imtiaz Awati Javed Sheikh, Feroze Sheikh, Amol Shelke, Driver Dilip Khot, Ram Yevatikar, and RPF Constable Arun Jagtap, Constable Vinod Kumar Meena, and Constable ASI Santosh Jaibhai.
