Alandi, 11th February 2024: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during his visit to Pune, Maharashtra, emphasized the historical significance of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s resistance against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Adityanath’s remarks were made at the Geeta Bhakti Amrit Mahotsav in Alandi, where he praised the devotion and strength embodied by Shivaji Maharaj and highlighted the enduring impact of his legacy on Indian history.

Adityanath underscored the deep connection between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra through their shared reverence for Shivaji Maharaj, advocating for the recognition of his contributions to Mughal history. He also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives, such as the defence corridor in Uttar Pradesh, which he dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, symbolizing the integration of valour and self-reliance in India’s national development.

Speaking at the event, Adityanath said, “Our relation is with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, not with Mughals.” He further elaborated, “The strength derived from devotion prevails over adversaries. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, sculpted by Samarth Ramdas from this very soil, defied the authority of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, leading to Aurangzeb’s eventual demise, a figure now largely disregarded.”

Expanding on the sentiment, he remarked, “Maharashtra epitomizes valour owing to its association with revered saints. The combination of Bhakti (devotion) and Shakti (power) was what led to the construction of the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya by breaking the “saga of 500 years of slavery.”.”

Adityanath emphasized his advocacy for the naming of a museum after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, reflecting their allegiance to his legacy rather than that of the Mughals. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a defence corridor in Uttar Pradesh dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj as a testament to the nation’s pursuit of self-reliance and the valorous spirit he embodies.

During his visit, Yogi Adityanath also offered prayers at the Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Sanjeevan Samadhi Temple in Pune. His visit coincided with Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s visit to the ancient temple at Alandi.

In December 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, paying homage to the rich maritime heritage of Shivaji Maharaj, who constructed several coastal and sea forts, including the Sindhudurg Fort.
