Pune Railway Division Reports Robust Revenue Surge of 14.84% in 10 Months

Pune, 6th February 2024: The Pune Division of the Central Railway is celebrating a substantial boost in earnings, showcasing a remarkable 14.84% increase in income during the first 10 months of the financial year 2023-24 compared to the same period last year. The division has accumulated a total of Rs 1478 crore so far in the current financial year, a notable increase from the Rs 1287 crore earned in the corresponding period of 2022-23.

 

Highlights of Pune Division’s Revenue Growth:

 

1. Passenger Trains Lead the Surge:

– Pune Division secured the majority of its income from passenger trains, totaling Rs 1005.66 crore in the first 10 months of the current financial year.

– This represents a significant 19.28% increase compared to the earnings of Rs 843.07 crore during the same period last year.

 

2. Freight Transportation Shows Solid Performance:

– Pune Division excelled in freight transportation, generating Rs 356.61 crore in the first 10 months of the current financial year.

– This marks a growth of about 5% compared to the earnings of Rs 341.90 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

– Noteworthy commodities transported include automobiles, sugar, and petroleum products sent from Pune, while cement, food grains, fertilizers, and steel are brought to Pune through rail.

 

3. Diverse Income Sources Contribute:

– Pune Division also recorded significant earnings from various sources, such as penalty collections from passengers traveling without tickets.

– The division earned Rs 100.17 crore from services like TT handling, parcels, platform tickets, ticket cancellations, and operation of special trains in the current financial year.

– This reflects an increase from Rs 90.38 crore earned during the first 10 months of the last financial year.

– Additionally, Pune Division generated Rs 15.67 crore from Commercial Publicity, Pay and Park, Catering, and Pay and Use, compared to Rs 12.46 crore in the same period last year.

 

4. Rising Passenger Numbers:

– Dr. Milind Hirve, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Pune, reported a substantial increase in the number of passengers this year, reaching a total of 4 crore 66 lakh passengers.

– This represents a notable surge from the 3 crore 86 lakh passengers recorded during the same period last year.

 

Dr. Hirve emphasized the Railways’ commitment to providing high-quality facilities to passengers. The continuous review of passenger facilities and the diminishing impact of COVID-19 contribute to the observed revenue growth in Pune’s Railway Division.
