Walhekarwadi, 23rd January 2024: A fire broke out at two godowns in Jai Malhar Colony, Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad, leading to the loss of two lives earlier today. The incident was reported around 2:24 am to the fire brigade.

The response from the fire stations was swift, with PCMC Main Fire Station along with Pradhikaran, Chikhali, and Thergaon sub-fire stations dispatching a total of five fire vehicles to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered that two godowns, M/s Ganesh Packaging Industries and M/s Vinayak Aluminium Door Making Company, were engulfed in flames. Both godowns were completely gutted. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire in the first godown had damaged a Swift car, wood stoves, hand saw machines, air compressors, and other materials.

The second godown contained aluminum frames and two two-wheelers, where two individuals lost their lives due to smoke inhalation. Lalit Arjun Chaudhary (21) and Kamlesh Arjun Chaudhary (23) were found unconscious on the attic floor, having succumbed to carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide produced by the fire.

The fire brigade efficiently extinguished the flames by spraying water through the water line, utilizing fire hoses and hose reel hoses. All residents in adjacent buildings were safely evacuated with the assistance of the police.

The fire and smoke penetrated the aluminum profile door shed, causing a significant buildup of toxic gases. Quick-thinking locals attempted to combat the fire with buckets of water before the arrival of the fire brigade.
