Maval, 20th January 2024: In a startling revelation, it has been discovered that a woman was brutally murdered by her husband, sister-in-law and brother-in-law and body buried to conceal evidence. The heinous crime was committed in retaliation for her brother-in-law’s arrest by the police in a previous incident.

The deceased has been identified as Sunanda Laxman Chavan (27), a resident of Pachane, Maval taluka, Pune district.

The incident took place on January 16 on a hill in Chandkhed, Maval. Following the murder, the accused smashed her head and buried her body in the ground on the hill, attempting to conceal the evidence of their gruesome act.

The victim’s brother, Sham Namdev Chavan (28), a resident in Kelawde, Bhor, filed a complaint with the Shirgaon-Parandwadi police station (Pimpri Chinchwad police), leading to the subsequent arrests of Laxman Rambhau Chavan and sister-in-law Nanda Ganesh Chavan. However, brother-in-law Ganesh remains at large.

The motive behind the murder traces back to a previous crime in Lonikand, where Sunanda had reported Ganesh to the police, resulting in the latter’s arrest. Fueled by anger over the arrest, the accused hatched a sinister plan to eliminate Sunanda. On the fateful morning of January 16, Sunanda fell victim to a fatal blow to the head with a stone, after which her body was callously buried to erase any traces of the crime.

The chilling incident came to light when Sunanda’s relatives, alarmed by her unavailability and switched-off phone, reported her disappearance to the police. Subsequent investigations by the police into the family’s background unraveled the shocking truth behind Sunanda’s gruesome murder. The police are currently conducting a thorough inquiry, with accused Ganesh still on the run.
