Pune: Zone 4 Police Launch Community Intervention Program to Tackle Juvenile Offenders

Pune, 6th January 2024: To curb the rising involvement of juvenile offenders in crimes against persons and property, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Shashikant Borate initiated a comprehensive program aimed at addressing the legal conflicts affecting children. The program, which took place across various police stations, saw active participation from both children and parents affected by legal conflicts.

Community Engagement Statistics:

– Chaturshringi Police Station: 40 participants
– Khadki Police Station: 26 participants
– Vishrantwadi Police Station: 22 participants
– Yerwada Police Station: 20 participants
– Airport (Vimantal) Police Station: 20 participants
– Chandan Nagar Police Station: 22 participants
– Lonikand Police Station: 30 participants

Total: 180 participants

Key Focus Areas of the Program:

1. Importance of Education: Emphasizing the role of education in shaping responsible citizens.

2. Parental Responsibility: Raising awareness among parents about their responsibility towards their children.

3. Misuse of Social Media: Informing participants about the connection between juvenile crime and the misuse of social media.

4. Drug Addiction Awareness: Providing information about the dangers of drug addiction and its correlation with criminal activities.

5. Nutrition and Exercise: Offering guidance on a nutritious diet and the importance of regular exercise for overall well-being.

6. Traffic Rules and Personal Safety: Instructions on traffic rules, good touch, and bad touch to ensure the safety of children.

7. Talent Development: Guiding parents and children on channelling their talents and interests as alternatives to criminal activities.

8. Police and Child Helpline Information: Educate participants about the police helpline and child helpline numbers (112, 1091, 1098) for assistance and reporting.

Today, a special meeting was organized at Vimantal Police Station. “The gathering focused on educating children and their parents about the importance of education and laws. Parents were also guided on their responsibility towards their children. Information was shared about the misuse of social media and its connection to juvenile crime. Participants were educated about the legal struggles surrounding drug use and addiction, the significance of a nutritious diet, and the importance of exercise. Special emphasis was placed on traffic rules, good touch, bad touch, and providing information about police and child helpline numbers (112, 1091, 1098)”, informed Senior Police Inspector Anand Khobre, in-charge of Vimantal police station.

Additionally, participants were informed about job opportunities available in various companies through transformation programs for a brighter future. The meeting had the presence of 20 juveniles along with their parents.

The gathering was conducted under the guidance of DCP Borate, ACP (Yerwada division) Sanjay Patil, Inspector Khobare, Child Welfare Police Officers, Police Sub-Inspector Samu Chaudhary, social worker Poornima Gadia, journalist Nikhil Gaikwad, police personel Archana Shinde, Madhuri Bhor, Rupali Gouranti and Pratabh Padwal.
