Katraj, 1st January 2024: In a significant step towards completing the Katraj-Kondhwa road work, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the construction of two separate lanes between Khadi Machine Chowk and Kanha Veg Hotel. The implementation of this plan began today on January 1, aiming to facilitate the PMC’s work at Kanha Veg Hotel Chowk after diverting traffic.

Citizens have consistently demanded the timely completion of the Katraj-Kondhwa road work, citing the challenges posed by traffic jams and frequent accidents. Funding for this project will be provided by the state government. The road work had faced delays due to land acquisition issues, but the PMC is now in direct communication with landowners to resolve this matter. The PMC Commissioner has allocated a separate provision of Rs. 24 crores for land acquisition, and the PMC has expressed its willingness to incur additional expenses if necessary. With funds from the Maharashtra State Government and the PMC’s provisions, the road is being widened by acquiring the required land through agreements with landowners.

The focus on completing the road work has led to increased speed in the construction process. Weekly reviews and inspections by the PMC administration ensure progress monitoring. The upcoming underground work (underpass) at Kanha Veg Hotel Chowk necessitates a change in the traffic route. Excavation work will be carried out in this area, rerouting traffic from Katraj through the road adjacent to Kanha Veg Hotel to Khadi Machine Chowk. Traffic coming from Khadi Machine Chowk will take the road adjacent to the ISKCON temple instead of the old route. This traffic diversion allows the PMC administration to work effectively at Kanha Veg Hotel Chowk.

One crucial step in this process involves the PMC administration planning to commence work within three months after the completion of excavation. The traffic police have been informed about the change in traffic routes, and the PMC administration has prepared the road for vehicles coming from Khadi Machine Chowk. This will result in the suspension of traffic from the old route to Katraj, with arrangements made at certain points for road crossings. Despite the traffic diversion, the contractor and the PMC administration face the challenge of ensuring the timely completion of the road work.
