Pune, 22nd December 2023: Former corporators, including Ujjwal Keskar, Suhas Kulkarni, and Prashant Badhe, have called upon Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to intervene and annul what they claim is an illegal tax imposed on flat owners in Nanded City, Pune.

The demand was made today as the ex-corporators presented their comprehensive study of the levied tax, outlining discrepancies and suggesting a reevaluation based on existing laws and regulations.

The calculation provided by the former corporators scrutinizes the tax applied to a flat in Nanded City, highlighting a series of discrepancies. According to their assessment, a flat of approximately 895 sq. ft. is taxed without the required special notice, starting from July 01, 2021. The calculated annual taxable amount of Rs 23,000, based on the Pune Municipal Corporation’s decision, is contested by the former corporators.

Utilizing government decisions and rules, the former corporators argue for a 66% exemption in tax for flat holders in the Nanded City project. This leads to a revised annual rateable amount of Rs 51,171, resulting in a considerably lower tax of Rs 5,681. The ex-corporators assert that the current billing system is flawed, presenting a substantial incorrect balance and causing financial strain on citizens.

The former corporators have questioned the awareness and adherence to the law by the officials responsible for the tax imposition. They request a thorough investigation into the matter and propose the temporary suspension of the current taxation until a fair assessment is conducted.

The letter, addressed to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has also been forwarded to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, Higher Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, MP Supriya Sule, MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Principal Secretary Urban Development, and Pune Municipal Commissioner.

As the call for justice gains momentum, citizens await the response from the authorities and anticipate a fair resolution to the alleged irregularities in the taxation system.
