Army Intelligence Initiative Honors Families of Martyrs in Pathankot

Pune, 21st December 2023: Lieutenant General Pradeep Kumar Chahal, Colonel Commandant Intelligence Corps of the Indian Army, has launched a new initiative to pay tribute to the bravery and courage of the country’s brave sons. The initiative aims to ensure the well-being of the families and relatives of those brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.

Under General Chahal’s leadership, Intelligence Corps soldiers are conducting door-to-door visits to honour the bravery and courage of these soldiers and recognize their families. As part of this initiative, a felicitation ceremony was organized by the Army Intelligence at Surya Academy Pathankot on Monday. During the ceremony, officers from the Military Intelligence Training School in Pune presented certificates of honour, citations, shawls, medals, and idols of Gods to the wives of the martyrs. They emphasized that the supreme sacrifice made by the martyrs will continue to inspire all ranks of the Indian Army and Intelligence Corps.

Among the honoured martyrs were Balkrishna Katoch, who served in the 16 Corps Intelligence and Surveillance Unit under ‘Operation Rakshak’ and attained martyrdom on April 29, 2007, in Sub Sector Kalakot Tehsil Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir. Havildar Ajit Singh, posted in the Intelligence and Surveillance Unit (Northern Command) under ‘Operation Rakshak,’ attained martyrdom on July 17, 2010, while performing his duty.

General Chahal personally spoke to the brave women over the phone during the ceremony, ensuring their well-being and assuring them of ongoing support from the Corps in the future.

Present at the occasion were Captain Harbans Singh, Captain Pradeep Saini, Captain Yograj Thakur, Subedar Major Kewal Thakur, Subedar Major Ravindra Singh, Subedar Balwinder Singh, Subedar Sunil Jamwal, Subedar Narinder Pathania, and other local citizens.
