Pune: Three Students Duped of Rs 22 Lakh in Bogus Medical College Admissions

Pune, 21st December 2023: A Mumbai-based racketeer has swindled three students of Rs 22 lakh under the guise of securing admissions to a private medical college in Pune city. The details of this fraudulent operation have recently surfaced, shedding light on the deceptive practices employed by the culprits.

The Bharti Vidyapeeth police station has received a complaint from a 20-year-old youth hailing from Velhe, outlining the fraudulent activities of the accused. The suspects, identified as Saurabh Sunil Kodag (22 years old, Jamilnagar, Mumbai) and Santosh Kashinath Pawar (50 years old, Virar, Mumbai), have been booked in connection with the case.

According to police, the victim, aspiring to enroll in the BAMS course at a medical college, became acquainted with Kodag and Pawar. The accused duped the young man of Rs. 13 Lakh 20 thousand, falsely claiming to facilitate his admission. Subsequently, the victim was provided with a counterfeit admission letter.

Expanding their nefarious operation, the racketeers targeted two additional individuals, including a young woman, convincing them to seek admission to an Ayurveda college in Hadapsar. An additional sum of eight lakh ninety thousand rupees was extorted from these victims. When the promised admissions failed to materialize, the aggrieved students demanded a refund from the accused.

In response, the accused not only refused repayment but also resorted to verbal abuse, threatening the complainant and his family with dire consequences, including threats of violence and death.

Police are further investigating the case.
