Pune: Lohegaon Residents Demand Action, Push for Enhanced Security Measures and Citizen Policing

Viman Nagar, 15th December 2023: Concerns over the escalating crime rate in the Vishrantwadi – Lohegaon area have prompted citizens and political representatives to advocate for enhanced security measures.

A letter has been submitted to the officials at the Vimantal Police Station, Viman Nagar, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address criminal activities. The proposal suggests the installation of CCTV cameras on major roads in collaboration with the community to ensure public safety.

The statement, presented by representatives of the Shiv Sena (UBT) party and residents, outlines the urgency of curbing crimes such as burglary and looting in areas like Lohegaon- Wagholi Road and Pawar Vasti.

Senior Police Inspector Anandrao Khobare acknowledged the concerns and expressed his commitment to implementing a citizen policing concept through public participation.

One of the key recommendations in the statement is the installation of CCTV cameras on major roads to monitor and deter criminal activities effectively. The citizens of Lohegaon are encouraged to contribute to this initiative, ensuring the collective safety of the entire community. Senior Police Inspector Khobare emphasized the importance of public subscription and philanthropic support in implementing this security measure.

During a discussion with a delegation that included social activists Deepak Khandve, Sachin Khandve, Amol Pawar, Nilesh Pawar, Harshvardhan Pawar, Yadavrao Ratne, and Prakash Nikam, Police Inspector Khobare acknowledged the challenges faced due to the size of the Lohegaon area and the current shortage of police personnel. However, he assured the delegation that efforts were underway to address the crime rate, with a commitment to increasing police patrolling.

In response to the community’s concerns, Police Inspector Khobare urged citizens to take an active role in their security. Installing CCTV cameras through public subscription, supported by philanthropists, is seen as a proactive step towards reducing crime in the area. The police have pledged to collaborate with the community to ensure a safer environment through increased patrolling and citizen-led security measures.
