Pune: Son Assaults Doctor After Father’s Death, Doctors Stage Protest At YCM Hospital in Pimpri
Pimpri, 11th December 2023: Tensions flared at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital on Sunday when a grieving son allegedly assaulted and abused Dr Rishikesh Hanmant Kudale after his father’s demise during treatment.
Dr. Kudale, a 25-year-old resident of Pimpri, promptly filed a complaint with the Pimpri Police, leading to a case being registered against the accused, Mahesh Rajaram Kumbhar (25), a resident of District Dharashiv.
Rajaram Kumbhar, the father of Mahesh Kumbhar, was under the care of Dr. Kudale in the ICU ward at YCM Hospital. Unfortunately, Rajaram succumbed to his illness, prompting Dr. Kudale to convey the news to the patient’s relatives. In response, Mahesh Kumbhar visited the ICU ward, inquired about his father’s demise, and briefly grieved at his father’s bedside.
However, the situation took a violent turn when Mahesh, reportedly overcome with anger or grief, physically assaulted Dr. Kudale and verbally abused him. The Pimpri police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
A case has been registered against Mahesh Kumbhar based on the complaint filed by Dr. Kudale. The police will delve into the circumstances surrounding the assault, seeking a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired at YCM Hospital on that fateful day.
In response to the assault on their colleague, doctors at YCM Hospital staged a protest on Sunday evening. The demonstration reflected the medical community’s concern over rising instances of violence against healthcare professionals. Administrative authorities and the police intervened, leading to the withdrawal of the protest.
