Pune: Two More Agents Arrested For Cheating Easy Pay Pvt Ltd Of Rs 3.5 Crores

Pune, 7th December 2023: Easy Pay Pvt. Ltd., a leading online payment facilitator operating nationwide, fell victim to a massive fraud scheme amounting to Rs 3.5 Crores.

The cyber police station in Pune city had earlier arrested two individuals involved in the crime, Ankit Kumar Ashok Pandey from Durgapur, West Bengal, and Chhotu alias Ejaz Alam from Gaya, Bihar. Two other suspects, Ubed alias Ubbedullah Ansari and Ayub Bashir Alam, who were absconding, have been now arrested.

The intricate fraud unfolded when 65 registered agents colluded to manipulate the company’s official system through unauthorized mobiles, circumventing the authorized web portal app. These agents misused technical facilities by logging in with unauthorized mobiles, siphoning a commission of Rs 3,52,70,210.82 from the company’s VPA account into 44 different bank accounts. The cyber police station in Pune city has filed a case for offences under Sections 43/66, 66D of the Information Technology Act, along with Sections 419, 420, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Ankit Kumar Ashok Pandey and Chhotu alias Ejaz Alam were arrested and a charge sheet has been submitted to the Court against them. Recently, the police successfully traced and nabbed Ubed alias Ubbedullah Ansari and Ayub Bashir Alam in Bihar and West Bengal, respectively.

The accused were found to be frequently changing their locations, requiring a dedicated police team to trace and apprehend them. A total of 04 mobile sets and other materials were seized from the accused during the arrest, and further investigations into the crime are underway.

The police obtained transit remand for the accused and have produced them in the First Class Magistrate Court No. 06, Shivajinagar, Pune. The accused have been remanded in police custody for five days.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, DCP (EOW & Cyber) Vikrant Deshmukh and ACP RN Raje. The team included police personnel Rajkumar Jaba, Navnath Jadhav, Shahrukh Sheikh, Nilesh Landge and Nitin Chandane.
