History Department at Savitribai Phule Pune University Launches Persian Language Course

Pune, 30th November 2023: In a bid to promote linguistic diversity and cultural understanding, the Department of History of Savitribai Phule Pune University has announced the commencement of a new course – the ‘Basic Course in Farsi (Persian) Language.’

Persian holds significance as a key language in both the Middle East and Central Asia. Referred to as Farsi in Iran, Dari in Afghanistan, and Tajik in Tajikistan, it plays a crucial role in linguistic and cultural contexts across the region.

Prospective students interested in learning the Persian language can apply to the department by submitting their applications before the deadline on December 9, 3 pm. The application forms are available in the department office.

The course, which kicks off on December 10, is set to run for 50 hours, providing participants with a foundational understanding of the Farsi language. To enrol in the program, a 12th pass qualification is required. The course fee is Rs.3000 per student, and applicants are encouraged to meet the submission deadline to secure their spot in the program.

Dr. Shraddha Kumbhojkar, the Head of the History Department, emphasized that the classes will be conducted every Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm. The language instruction will be offered in both Marathi and English to cater to a diverse group of learners.
