Central Railway’s RPF: Rescues 66 Lives, 15 from Pune, Recovers Rs 2.77 Crore in April-October 2023

Pune Division Shines Bright: Rescues Highest 138 Children Among Central Railway's 408 Rescues In 90 Days

Pune, 28th November 2023: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are always in the forefront and keep a round the clock vigil in safeguarding not only railway properties but also playing multiple roles of Life Saviours, Runaway Children Rescuers and Luggage Retrievers.

During the period from April -October 2023, Central Railway RPF personnel, as part of “Mission Jeevan Rakshak” have saved the lives of 66 persons at times even risking their own life. These include,

19 persons in Mumbai Division,
13 persons in Bhusaval Division,
14 persons in Nagpur Division, and
5 persons in Solapur Division
15 persons in Pune Division

The alert RPF in most cases, has saved the lives of those passengers, who are sometimes negligent and face danger while boarding or alighting running trains. At times lives have been saved while attempting suicide due to various personal reasons. But in the end, this act of saviours results in jubilation, happiness and gratitude beyond words towards the RPF personnel.

Besides the core duty of safeguarding Railway property, the RPF under the operation “Amanat” has gone beyond the call of their duty and helped passengers in need and retrieved and returned their lost or left behind luggage, valuable articles such as mobile phone, laptop, jewellery, cash etc. to passengers.

During the current financial year from April to October 2023, under the Operation ‘Amanat’, the RPF has retrieved luggage of 857 passengers valued about Rs. 2.77 crore. Out of these 857 passengers, Rs 1.63 crore worth luggage of 377 passengers were retrieved on Mumbai Division of Central Railway alone. These luggage retrieval cases include the articles like bags, Mobile Phones, Purse, Laptop and other valuable articles. The value of luggage of passengers retrieved on other divisions are:
Bhusaval Division Rs. 50.45 lakh worth luggage of 182 passengers
Nagpur Division Rs. 36.97 lakh worth luggage of 168 passengers
Pune Division Rs. 13.94 lakh worth luggage of 58 passengers
Solapur Division Rs. 13.99 lakh worth luggage of 72 passengers

These soldiers of the Railway Protection Force also face diverse security challenges such as crime against passengers and railway properties, extremist violence, obstruction to train movement etc. The work of these brave soldiers of the Railway Protection Force can be summarized as Suraksha, Satarkta and Seva and they have discharged their duties with utmost dedication alertness and courage.
