Pimpri, 22nd November 2023: In a proactive move, the Sky Signs and License Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has successfully removed 174 unauthorized advertisement boards from the city, emphasizing a commitment to public safety. With only 1,136 official advertisement boards remaining, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a stern warning that any unauthorized boards discovered will face immediate demolition.

PCMC’s Skysign and License Department, has been working on implementing an outdoor advertising policy twice in the last five years. However, due to a new state government notification in 2022, a revised policy was adopted, leading to the cancellation of the previous one. This change was prompted by a tragic incident in Kiwale where unauthorized billboards collapsed, highlighting the urgency for stricter regulations.

The recent removal of 174 unauthorized boards signals PCMC’s commitment to enforcing the new regulations. In the aftermath of the Kiwale tragedy, where a billboard collapsed during the rainy season, the authorities have launched a stringent campaign against unauthorized billboards to mitigate potential hazards.

In compliance with court orders, billboard traders are now paying license fees and submitting necessary documents. A total of 281 plaque holders, who sought legal recourse, have obtained architectural stability certificates and collectively deposited ₹4.61 crore in the municipal treasury.

Out of 1,366 authorized billboard holders in the city, 861 have applied for renewal. PCMC will meticulously scrutinize each renewal application. Specifications for authorized boards include a size of 40 feet by 20 feet. Deputy Commissioner Subhash Ingle has emphasized that boards lacking proper identification such as number plates and QR codes, or those with rusty or rotten skeletons, will not be permitted, and strict action will be taken.
