Pune: Motor Accident Tribunal Awards Rs 1.15 Crore Compensation to Family of Deceased Bike Rider

Pune, 18th November 2023: The Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) has ordered a compensation of Rs 1 crore 15 lakh to the family of a young bike rider who lost his life in a collision with a truck.

The fatal accident occurred on May 7, 2019, on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. The young man sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them. The deceased, a 35-year-old technician employed in a private hospital, earned a monthly salary of Rs 37 thousand. Additionally, he worked part-time in the x-ray department of another private hospital, where he received a monthly salary of Rs 12 thousand. His family was reliant on his income.

His wife, along with family members, filed a compensation claim through lawyers Anil Patni and Ashish Patni. The lawsuit was directed against the dumper truck owner and their insurance company SBI General Insurance Company. Following a thorough examination of documents, testimonies, and evidence, the court ruled a compensation amount of Rs 87 lakh.

The court has instructed the deposit of a total of Rs 1.15 crores, including interest at a rate of 8% per month from the date of filing the suit.
