Pune: Thieves Posing As Police Deceive Senior Citizen In Aundh, Escape With Gold Worth One Lakh Rupees

Aundh, 15th November 2023: Thieves impersonating as police officers cunningly stole gold jewellery worth one lakh rupees from a 74-year-old senior citizen who was returning from his morning walk at Chondhe Garden in Aundh, Pune.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. on Monday. The elderly man as lodged a complaint with Chatushringi Police Station.

According to police, the complainant was on his regular morning walk when two individuals on a motorcycle approached him. Claiming to be police officers from the crime branch, one of them informed about a recent theft in Aundh village and asserted, ‘I am a policeman. Don’t walk around wearing so much jewellery.’ The victim was then asked to place his jewellery in a handkerchief for examination.

Under the pretext of questioning, the complainant complied and placed his jewellery in the handkerchief as directed. However, the thieves, taking advantage of the situation, swiftly swapped the handkerchief containing the victim’s valuables with another. When he later inspected the handkerchief at home, he discovered that the jewellery were missing. The thieves had managed to escape with gold worth one lakh rupees.

The Chatushringi Police Station has registered a case in connection with this deceptive act.
