Pune: PCMC Joins ‘Women for Water, Water for Women’ Campaign

Pimpri, 8th November 2023 – The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has been selected to participate in the “Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign” under the initiatives of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojana’s National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) and Amrut 2.0 by the Government.

As part of this campaign, an event named ‘Jal Diwali’ has been organized, scheduled to take place from November 7 to November 9. The program aims to inform and educate participants about the significance of water purification centres in the city. A total of 120 participants are planned for each day, with one group consisting of 30 to 40 women, corresponding to the three Vidhan Sabhas of the city.

This initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Commissioner Shekhar Singh and following the directives of Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale Patil. On the first day of the event, 40 women from the Bhosari assembly constituency visited the Sector 23 Water Purification Center in Nigdi.

During the visit, Chief Engineer Shrikant Sawane, Executive Engineer Sanjay Tupsakhre, DD Patil, Coordinator of the ‘Jal Diwali’ activity, and Deputy Engineer of the Water Purification Center, Surekha Kulkarni, provided the visiting women with cloth bags, steel water bottles, and flower plants.

The women were educated about the journey of water from Pavana Dam to their taps, the water purification process, and water testing procedures. The workshop received an excellent response from the participants.

Chief Engineer Shrikant Sawane emphasized the importance of water conservation and addressed the women’s water-related queries. He highlighted the fact that water does not get stale and should be used prudently.

The event received support from Manisha Hingane, Sanjeev Dhulam, Rafi Sheikh, Jyoti Bhosale, and Vaishali Sonawane of the Social Development Department.
